Springfield Rifle

Posted by Alex Haines on Friday, 3 January 2014, at 1:06 p.m.

Mr. Hosmer,

My family has a Springfield Rifle from in the late 1800's. On one side of the rifle it says 1871 and on the other side says 1872. I've done some research and found that Springfield made a model 1870 and 1873, but not the two numbers listed on the gun we have. I was wondering if you could clarify this and possibly put a value on the rife. The total package is the rife with the bayonet, as well as a Mills 45 loop cartridge belt with bayonet holder.

Thank you, Alex Haines
