If a competent gunsmith says it is safe, then I don't think anyone here would argue with him since we have not seen it.

My only possible concern would be that perhaps the plating in the bore reduces the diameter slightly which would cause an increase in pressure when firing, but I doubt if it is enough to worry about. All of this is predicated on use of normal loads suitable for trapdoors, not hot stuff loaded for stronger modern rifles.
