Re: 1873 Springfield Rifle Serial Number

Unfortunately, as is so often the case since our records comprise only about 5% of the total - that number is not listed in the SRS register, and, while there are a VERY few close carbine listings, the vast majority of nearby numbers were apparently rifles.

All carbines have 22" barrels, with a proper crown, and a muzzle diameter of about .730". They will have a bar and ring on the left side. Front of stock should have a distinctively curved tip with no patching, filling, or splicing. If the top of your breechblock is dated 1884, then it has been replaced at some time.
