I'm assuming that the .50-70 #49788 actually has a pair of numbers, side by side, on the left side barrel/receiver joint? If so, it is a perfectly normal M1868 Rifle - which used some older parts, but was itself newly assembled, not a conversion of an existing rifle, as some earlier rifles were.
