Field reports show that Co.K 4th Cavalry were issued 28 Springfield, 27 Remington and 28 Sharps M1870 .50 carbines at Ft. Richardson during 1st. Quarter 1871.

21 Ward Burton M1870 .50 carbines were added to this mix during 4th. Quarter 1872.

These 4 trials carbines continued in issue with Co. K through 1st. Quarter 1874.

No report is found thereafter as the entire regiment were issued the 1873 Springfield .45 carbine during 2nd Quarter 1874.
