Well, if you "have the gun" and can "see the firing pin", but the hammer does not strike it, something is TERRIBLY wrong!

Yes, the hammer IS screwed to the tumbler which is fastened to the lockplate, which is on the side of the rifle, but the hammer itself is formed with a considerable offset to the left which allows it to hit the pin, dead center.

The firing pin itself is fairly long and slants down and in (within the breechblock) to strike the center rear of the chambered cartridge.

I cannot imagine, even if you know nothing of guns, what could be wrong. You are welcome to email some pictures (can't post here) to me if you wish.
