First step is to ensure the local cops enter in the NCIC database of stolen property. Then, there is at least a chance that if it is recovered it might be returned to you.

Chances of recovery are slim. Chances of the cops bothering to check for a possible owner about the same or less. So, chances of you actually getting it back are down in the under 5% range... if you are lucky.

If it ever turns up it will probably be within the first few months, and after that it may have a new home with an unwitting buyer, or may have been dumped (in a river, or dumpster) as something worthless to the thief's stolen goods dealer, and basically lost to the collecting world forever.

Our host had a number of items stolen in Denver a few years ago, and despite a massive and timely publicity push at the time of the theft, almost nothing has ever been recovered.
