States were known to have marked their arms. While rare, some regular units did mark their weapons, contrary to regulations. The very small Signal Corps did not have a need for arms and if they did, they would have received them at the post level, from the ordnance sergeant. Certainly, Will C. Barnes was armed, probably with a carbine and revolver at the time he performed his deeds for which he was awarded the MOH. "SC" is definitely a property marking for South Carolina. Otherwise, we should be seeing "QMD" and other markings.
