Cut down rifle?

Posted by Richrad Fojtlin on Monday, 28 October 2013, at 2:52 p.m.

I can across a 45/70 Springfield rifle at the range yesterday for sale. It's the length of a carbine, has a cartouge on the stock 1889, but I am curious because 1 - the barrel has no front sight, 2 - there is no saddle ring on the left side of stock, 3 - it has a cleaning rod hole in the forestock. Am i looking at a cut down full size rifle? and is it still worth what their asking at 500.00. I do not have any pics or aserial number at this time. Thanks.
