Springfield 1873

Posted by Geoffrey on Wednesday, 16 October 2013, at 7:33 p.m.

I got bit by the trapdoor bug...fired one at a local NRA shoot and then saw one on the shelves of a local gun store, Finally decided to go for it! Found this site and figured it was worth knowing a little bit about the history (if any)just to add to how amazing these guns are.

I have an 1873, S/N: 212951. Stock is marked with "SWR (over) 1882" which wikipedia tells me was the head armorer for Springfield during that era. What information can you gents give me (if any) on this gun?

Also, I haven't jumped into the reloading realm yet, but would the Winchester Super-x cowboy load be a good load to shoot through this gun? Seems to be the only light load I can find in 45-70.

Thanks guys!
