Interesting Trapdoor Carbine.

Posted by Paul Eshleman on Tuesday, 8 October 2013, at 9:01 p.m.

I found a 1873 Trapdoor Carbine at a pawn shop in Billings. Everything is correct for a 1873. No parts from a later carbine are on it. The stock was broken at some point at the wrist and it was fixed with a rawhide wrap. This carbine looks like it was used hard over its life. There is a very faint 7 on the stock down by the buttplate. And to make this Carbine more of a mystery the serial # was scraped off. I can still make out a 1 as the first number of the serial #. The 1 is in the same position as a 17,XXX serial number of another trapdoor carbine that I have. So I know the serial # is in the 10,000-19,999 range. Any thoughts, opinions, information anyone has on this carbine would be appreciated. Thank you Paul Eshleman
