What strikes me is the large number of finish inconsistencies. As the late (and greatly missed) Bill Mook used to say of certain Krags: "Nice gun, I wonder who made it".

And, the statement that it is right in the midst of 7th Cav numbers is a blatant untruth - nothing could be further from reality. That range is largely populated by RIFLES, and has NO concentration of "hot numbers" at all!

As to the forensics, I cannot say, but if the specimens shown are supposed to be a "match" (and why else show them?) then the process would seem to be in deep doo-doo, not to mention tea leaves and owl entrails.

Tom, you know Glen, don't you? Can you provide any background? He put out a gorgeous book, but in 40+ years of experience at California gunshows, I had never heard of him as a collector. The MAA article, IMHO, stinks, and my subsequent discussion with Dr. Scott did little or nothing to allay my feelings.
