Sorry, no documented history on 319957.

All nearby numbers are either standard Model 1884 rifles or a few Model 1884 experimental rod bayonet rifles, both of which had 32 5/8" barrels.

It is almost certain that yours is a rifle that someone shortened to suit their preferences. I would not be at all surprised if it was one of the experimental rod bayonet rifles and they wanted to get rid of the heavy ugly latch mechanism near the muzzle, to make it handier for deer hunting. Such has been the fate of many collectible guns over the years.
