info on serial # 261654

Posted by Rick Baker on Wednesday, 28 August 2013, at 9:41 a.m.

When I purchased this rifle I did not know about this site and contacted trapdoors galore to find out what I could about it. Since then I've come to question some of the info that comes from that site. I was told that ser. # 261654 was made in the second 1/2 of 1884. It is a rifle, not carbine, marked 1873 with all the appropriate stamps on the metal. I think the stock has been sanded, heavily enough to make the cartouche unreadable although you can see where it was. It has what Ernie Brandt says is the final version of the buckhorn sight with slotless screws. I'm sure it isn't a hit with SRS but would like to know for sure when it was made. Thanks, RB
