Springfield made well over 100,000 trapdoors in .50-70 caliber, before they went to the .45-70 in 1873.

However, NO .50-70 should EVER be marked 1873. Where does the "1883" come from? Is it marked on the lockplate next to the hammer? If so, the gun was made up from parts, NOT at Springfield. There are no .50 repros, but a LOT of assembled guns out there.
