1873 springfield trapdoor .50 cal.

sir-i had an antique dealer call me today stating he has an 1873 springfield trapdoor in a .50 caliber and he says its in tremendous shape?? it's minus the bayonet and the ram-rod.. he thinks it was manufactured in 1883??? says its army issue?? i have seen 45/70's but never a .50 cal??? can you help me please?he wants to sell and i have first crack at it. i'm afraid of getting a repro or some sort of deal and lose my butt?? any help would be greatly appreciated!!
