The rifle is a sporting rifle, sometimes known as a "buffalo rifle" from the early 1880's which is a collectable as a commercial alteration. I have shot it but the cases all develop two parallel small indentations from a scratch in the top of the chamber. I was hoping to just kiss the high points enough to remove the marks. I do not want to separate the receiver as I will not be shooting the rifle to any extent. It has the heavy octagonal barrel meant for use with crossed sticks. If it is not a simple fix, I'll just leave it as is.
