1873 Trapdoor 20 gauge shotgun

Posted by Tim Van Leiden on Friday, 28 June 2013, at 2:52 p.m.

Hi, I own a gun shop in Ottawa, KS and have a customer with a 1873 Trapdoor 20 gauge shotgun, I see that Springfield made a few forager shotguns and that there were others that took surplus Springfield's and converted them to 20 gauge shotguns also. Just looking for a little help on what we have. It has a 24" barrel, no sling swivels, a brass front blade sight, the right side plate is marked US Springfield 1873 with eagle emblem (there is a 2 stamped above and right of the US stamp), top of trapdoor is marked US Model 1873, back of breech is serial# 809, butt plate is marked with US on top above screw. There are no markings on the barrel and I can't find any cartouches on the stock. Overall condition is good but the stock has been refinished. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks
