Ahhh wise one the extra number is a 2 so the SN is 559702. My friend told me today to sell it. So I can forward photos if anyone is interested. He also came by with a S&W CMGE .32 cal hammerless pistol and a 1918 engineer compass all from the same person who had it and gave it to him some 30 plus years ago. I does identify his military unit on the compass pouch in hand writing. Also has some sort or small folding tool 3-4 inches long. I wonder if it goes to the rifle and an old oil can. All this came with the rifle when he was given it. The rifle barrel has a stamped "VP" then some sort of symbol (? flag) and a 2 stamped vertically. I have no idea if this is helpful. Thanks again for the help. It does have a ram rod with a cross tip as you mentioned.
