Serial number (assuming it is a 5 digit number)would indicate manufacture in 1875. This would mean that the Breech Block has been changed for a later one.

IF there is another digit under the hammer, production would be in 1892.

It appears that this is a "Rod Bayonet" rifle. Is there a pointed rod protruding under the barrel?

The lock plate side is the RIGHT side on this model. All weapons are viewed from the rear to determine what is left or right.

The 1892 date on the LEFT side with a rounded rectangle is the "Cartouche". How it got that name is a mystery to me. Anybody got the answer to this one????
