1866 TD 50/70 Accuracy

Posted by Terry Roen on Tuesday, 25 June 2013, at 9:59 a.m.

Several months ago I purchased a Springfield model 1866 to add to my small collection of Trapdoors. I have loaded for and tested my 45/70 TDs over the years with good results, but now was the time to see how the 50/70 stacked up against the newer rifles. The target did not lie, the 50/70 beat the 45/70s. The 1 and 1/2 inch group for that old war horse using the stock sights and my old eyes made for a great day at the range. Used Lee mould .515 FB bullet. More tests to come.
