Re: Likely Combination?

I couldn't get a very good look at the bore yesterday. No one had bore light and using flashlight and flashlight app on smart phone wasn't good enough to make any kind of determination except the bore was very dirty. Close examination of muzzle showed definitive lands and grooves hiding under dirt and grime and no pitting after I ran tip of little finger into muzzle with paper towel (improvise and adapt right?). Based on what I saw there I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to have a fair to OK bore. But...... (And I still wonder why anyone would ever put a gun out that wasn't at least wiped down and had bore cleaned-rant off as you say!)

The patina matched well enough that there were no obvious warning flags. I'm going back today or tomorrow with rod and cleaning materials since this is potentially as used and I'll let you know what I find.

I didn't notice or know to notice the slotless screws. The search function gives me literally hundreds of posts to dig through so I am going to assume that this was the factory installation. If it has slotted screws then it would have been added or reinstalled at overhaul or refurb. As you so often say 'parts is parts'.

I appreciate the help of everyone on the various boards and can never give back as much as I've taken.

Thanks again,

Bob
