Re: Little Big Horn Rifle

What I sent Heritage:

"Don't know how far you are planning on pushing the LBH aspect/aura/etc. of the item, but you should know that the rear sight (which, by matching patina seems clearly original to the piece) is the Model 1877, which has a smooth curve to the base. The earlier Model 1873 sights, which were fitted to arms used at the battle, have steps on the base rails.

As noted, it would seem pretty obvious that the sight now present is the one put on when the arm was made, in 1877 or later (did I miss the serial number?). Therefore, no matter where the rifle was found, it could not possibly have ANY connection WHATSOEVER to the famous battle of June 1876. To state, or imply in ANY way even that it "might" have, would be at least misleading, and at worst, fraudulent.

You can see examples of the sights in question on my webpage: www.picturetrail.com/sa4570af
