The one he found is definately a military round. I was there. It does not have any bunting on the face of the cartridge, but is exactly the same style as all the military cartridges of that time frame. One would need to see the picture of it we took compared to a 405 grain carbine cartridge I dug the same day. My only question is the bullet is not "exactly" like the later 500 grain bullets I've recovered and seen before, but some sort of hy-bred almost looks like 485 grains but could be heavier? One would need to see the pictures. It is in excellent condition for a dug relic.
