it would be nice to photo shop some arrows and such to show some of us exactly what is being noticed on Al's two examples. I see at least three differences in blocks I have (early). Most of them occur around the ejector stud area.. but I think the scallop referred to is the side profile of the block itself. I see some that are more pronounced and higher.... and to add...

Why do some hammers match perfectly with the breech block firing pin area profile, and others are higher, or much lower? Is it the breech block that is different, or are some of the type 1 and 2 hammers actually taller or shorter in profile?
