Re: Krag carbine off subject

Frazer,

Good luck on finding a nice Krag carbine. They are certainly around & are my favorite little rifle (sorry about what the Trapdoor Folks will consider blatant heresy). If export/import can be arranged, an M1899 might be your best bet; they are particularly handy firearms. On the other hand, I currently have an M1896 listed with John on oldgunsDOTnet. John is absolutely, entirely trustworthy about what he says, so even if you're not interested in my carbine, he'd be a good source of information. (I shall say three things about my little carbine: it's a pre-1898 antique, it shoots well, and it is documented.)

Good luck in any case, and if your brother can help, consider the M1899. I'd think that a .30US (.30-40 Krag; it's pretty much like a .30-30) would be a fine round for shooting even the largest kangaroos.
