Technically, yes, of course.

The most prevalent anomaly, by far, in the SRS records is the calling of arms by model of rear sight.

This is - in a way - semi-official, as that part was considered SO important that it was WIDELY retrofitted, and is parallel to the late use of 1873 blocks, after the "Model 1884" designation/adoption.

Bottom line - they didn't care about the block markings, at all, but they went bananas over the M1884 sight.
