Re: Springfield M1873 ID Help

Stephen, I live in New Jersey. My great-grandfather was in the 1st Volunteer Infantry, Company M, during the Spanish-American-War. I have already been to the archive building and searched it high and low, with lots of help from the great folks who work there, but was not able to find any information relating to specific rifle models or serial #'s, issued to the volunteer troops. I have also contacted the NJ National Guard Museum in Sea Girt, and they could only confirm that the first two regiments, mustered out of Newark and Paterson, carried Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoors, and the third regiment had quite a few of the 1884RRB rifles. Unfortunately that is about all the information my research could acquire.

Hope this helps, Bob
