Thanks all for the support.

How do I find out what the markings mean? Or when it was made? I've been poking through this site, but I don't understand where to submit a request for research.

The last time I had a gun blued, it was a Steven's favorite. I had it done a Bose's Guns in Nebraska, and they did a great job preserving the engraving and lettering. I'll probably use them again unless they decline to work on a springfield.

I'll definitely be looking here for the reloading info. Right now, I only load 38/357 with a Lyman turret press. I was considering getting a Lee hand press just for the 45-70 since I'd be reloading a lower volume at higher quality. Also, I need to get a hand decapper I'd I am going to shoot black powder so I can pop 'em at the range and get the brass soaking right off.
