Buffington Sight

Posted by Doc Martin on Sunday, 17 June 2012, at 8:39 a.m.

I have a Trapdoor "Fencing Musket" which is a cutdown 1882 rifle to carbine length. It has a buffington rear sight and a non trapdoor front sight which appears to be too high. What range is the rear sight in the folded down mode set-up for?

Also, I am working up smokeless powder loads and want to know if bullet speed is a fair indicator of internal pressure? My current 4570 govt load is 13 gr. Trail Boss with a 405 gr. LRNFP & Win Lrg. Rifle primer. Average speed is 957 fps. (925 - 995)
