CARTOUCHE and serial #

Posted by John Moawad on Sunday, 17 June 2012, at 1:39 a.m.

I have an 1870 TD serial number 1416 on block and barrel with two CARTOUCHE marks. One is Allins (ESA) and the other is difficult to make out but it includes the year 1881.

This piece has no sling swivels, no other stock marks has "D" stamped at the breech and barrel seam on the right side; rear sight is very close to breach; barrel bands are little over 15 inches apart;overall length is 49"; 1870/Eaglehead/Crossed Arrows; U.S. mark on top of beach at barrel seam; indications are that this maybe a 1869 cadet. Please confirm my assesment The ramrod is missing(not unusal).
