Brass splitting

Posted by Broom Jockey on Thursday, 7 June 2012, at 1:17 p.m.

I loaded up some 3-ball loads according to J & Pat Wolfes book. I used new Starline brass, bored the flashhole out to their specs, used 40gr. 3fg and 3 .455 lead balls, all loaded to fial OAL with heavy crimp. My first 4 rounds all hit a 25 yard target POA and all 3 holes touching. OK except the cases separated about mid point, the front half of the brass went out the barrel with the balls. Seems as tho the brass case held the balls together to produce great hits on target. I was wondering why the new brass separated?? Any thought would be appreciated. Thank you, Broom Jockey
