If you lay the pin down & forget which is the tapered end, just look at both ends. The right side of the pin will be flat & the tapered end will be slightly rounded. Also the tapered end "should" start into the base & blade holes easily. The punch pin for removal is the 1/16 inch size. I usually lay the rifle down on it's right side, place a wooden block wrapped in a towel under the sight area & drift the pin out with the punch. I have hollow ground a pin for this task.
