You say there is nor ring/bar - are the elongated bases there? Is the muzzle crown proper? Is barrel 22"? Is there a trap in the butt for cleaning rod/tools? Is there a cleaning rod groove in the forend?

1273 and 1304 are known to be genuine carbines, and I would EXPECT 1280 to be the same. There is no known data for that particular number, however.

1273 was reported as damaged, and in the 6th Cavalry, in 1875. Location, if recorded, is not handy at the moment.
