Re: Springfield 1873 Front Sight

The sight actually detached today, I feel my own inept examination accidentally resulted in the removal, although it had become every loose. The sight is definitely finely machined in a factory. I has a long slanted grooved ramp-like protrusion laying along the barrel leading to the base of the actual sight blade. The sight at its thickest (from barrel to top of sight blade) measures about 3/4ths of an inch. The small base hole in which the sight was pinned in actually appears smaller in diameter then the pin protruding from the bottom of the sight could seem to accommodate. Do you think it will need to be replaced, or a gunsmith with some antique knowledge to reattach it? Beautiful gun, sad to see it in disrepair. Your help is much appreciated.

Pete
