I recently came across an individual trying to sell a Model 1878 Springfield Rifle. However, I discovered rifles were not made during that time period and the serial number 330xxx, places it in the 1886 time frame. There is an additional marking "K-4-27" on the stock. The gentleman selling it is in his 80's and claims his dad passed the rifle down to him. The rifle is in sound mechanical shape, my only concern is the numbers and dates not matching up. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
