The lock plates that are dated 1884 are a Bannerman's product. Bannerman's made these plates from salvage stock for use on assembled firearms.

You will actually find lock plates with the 1884 stamped upside down!!!

The 1884 lock plates are a collectible oddity of no great value. I gave $25.00 for the one I have.
