Re: 5 Land and Groove Barrels

Posted by Bill on Thursday, 15 March 2012, at 6:01 p.m., in response to 5 Land and Groove Barrels, posted by Al Frasca on Friday, 9 March 2012, at 9:44 p.m.

A few years ago, Al had photos of an unfinished carbine barrel that is not threaded or rifled, yet has the VP eagle and the front sight base. The outside contour is also finished. The barrel was rejected for some reason and sold as scrap. Is it possible the Armory also had a quantity of rifle barrels that were marked and finished like the pictured carbine barrel that were also sold as scrap. A Bannerman type company bought them, sent them to there favorite machine shop (which had a 5 groove rifling machine) to be completed and assembled onto scraped receivers. The scraped barrels could have been made anytime during trapdoor production which would account for the different front sights.
