1873 carbine questions

Posted by Jeff Fite on Wednesday, 22 February 2012, at 10:08 a.m.

Hi, I inherited a what appears to be a model 1873 trapdoor carbine. i say that because its stamp looks like 1878. This gun is a complete mystery as I don't know anything about its history. the serial # is 125141. the condition is almost too good. it has parts that seem to be nickel plated. the trigger part, the hammer, the oval shaped ring that holds the barrel to the wood, the butt plate, and the bar with the ring. It just seems odd. I took it to a local gun expert who didn't know much about it but thought it was odd as well.

Would anyone here be willing to have some photos sent to them and access the authenticity/value?

Thank you in advance, Jeff Fite
