Wes

Give this a try. This is my FAVORITE smokeless load.

MRI Trail Boss (smokeless) powder at 14.5 to 16 grains. Cream-O-Wheat filler on top.

For paper targets I push a 300 to 330 grain lubed soft bullet with 14.5 grains. For a hunting load I go with 15.5 grains & at least a 405 grain bullet. 16.5 grains is the maximum safe powder charge. Estimated cup pressure will be at 20,900. Around 22,500 is the threshold of failure for a Trapdoor Action. Some say as high as 25,000 but I will error on the side of keeping my good looks in tack.

Magnum primers are optional & not really necessary with smokeless loads.

The Cream-O-Wheat keeps the powder on top of the primer & smells good too :) Fill the case til you are compressing the filler enough to keep the powder in place. You can actually fill the case to the top, then seat the bullet to compress.

This load is not as much fun to shoot as BP but there is no "scrubbing" involved.

As with ALL Smokeless loads care must be taken to insure uniform WEIGHTS of measure.

Ernie
