So, here's some of the description that you asked about. No date on lockplate just an eagle and US over Spingfield, barrel grooves are very faint but appear to be 6, numbers on right side of rear sight 1,2,3,4,5 as if for the various elevation levels on the sight,I'm not sure what I'm looking for on the sling swivel base on trigger guard- round I guess. Additional stuff: no cartouches but at the back of the trigger guard where I've seen one before is a small stamp of B and D one above the other, 29+ inch barrel, short cheek rest and smaller butt plate, no stacking swivel on front barrel band only sling swivel and both barrel bands are stamped U, barrel has a VP and eagle head just above the wood on the left side and a very faint stamp between there and top centerline that I can only guess is an R, the ramrod is a flat button tip. I've read that a lot of guns were sold as surplus and modified so this could be a bastard of assembled parts but all of the gun appears uniformly old.
