1873 Trapdoor Springfield Value

Posted by R. Dimond on Thursday, 29 December 2011, at 9:58 a.m.

I have an 1873 (looks like 1878, but I've read there is no 1878) Trapdoor Springfield. It was given to me about 30 years ago by my father-in-law. He restored and made guns for years (after having worked in the Springfield Armory during WWII), however I don't recall what if anything he did to this particular Trapdoor Springfield. He's been gone for several years and I've finally decided to part with this rifle. Overall it's in very nice condition. Serial number is 39517. Rear site has a "C" on it which I assume stands for Carbine? Overall length is 41.75 inches. Does anyone have an idea of value? I can provide pictures. Other than a few minor marks on the stock and some light discoloration of the bluing on the barrel it appears to be in very nice condition. Thanks in advance for any responses and assistance.
