Re: Missing Cam Latch Screw?

You're definitely missing something, and, it sounds like you have the very early "type 1" breechblock, which shares some similarities with the Model 1865 (1st Allin) latch, rather than the usually encountered "type 2", in which the entire thumb-latch assembly is retained (like ALL other .50 and .45 TDs) in the block by a screw and plate on the right side. Is there a (perhaps frozen?) screw head, or screw hole, in line with the shaft on the LEFT side of the block? Some pictures would really help - can you email me? Hate to admit it, but I do not have an early 1866 in my collection, to which I could refer.
