Any plugged stock WAS cut, as that is simply not how SA did things, with the sole exception - to my knowledge - of the so-called "school guns", which are M1899 Krag carbines in reworked 1898 rifle stocks. The BoOF rifles, no matter how their metal was arrived at, had brand-new purpose-made stocks, with a different lightening hole configuration than normal. All bear the usual JSA/1902 cartouche.
