Springfield 1898 Board of Ordnance

Posted by Sean Engman on Friday, 28 October 2011, at 11:15 a.m.

I came across this page in search of information on a rifle I just picked up. Here is the information I have:

Springfield 1898 .30-40 Krag

Sat in a safe for the last 60 years. The gent I purchased it from stated "It was Grandpa's rifle and was overseas"

The serial is 320492

Barrel Length is 26"

Sights were replaced with Redfield peep sights (front post and rear)

Stock appears to be original minus the upper hand guard.

Stamped "U" on the barrel band

Stamped "7" on the underside of bolt handle

Stamped "l" "3" and two other undiscernable symbols on back of bolt handle

Any information would be helpful. It came with a WWII Jeep Scabbard that has all of the original hardware.

Thanks

Sean
