The only real auctions I'd like to see, but know the impossibility are the Marquis collection, and I think the Custer Battlefield has those?
There are a few relic carbines out there, but I'd guess pulling a serial number off of the ones I know, would be next to impossible with out destroying something. Pretty rough.
I think Mr. Fenn is the reason they sold for that much. I knew him, but some of his knowledge I viewed with lots of skepticism. One in particular was a battle site I had detected and he claimed it was on a ridge more than 3/4 miles from where it actually is/was. I told him and told him why I know.. and not one thing was ever found in that location.. but I guess a degree makes one more believable!
