Re: Number of Rounds Fired Before Cleaning

Hi Steve, There is no rule of thumb that I know of. There are factors to consider. Such as how clean your powder burns, ambient temperatures, and humidity. I can fire 15-20 rounds of black powder .45-70-500 ammo, and not have any problems. Some guys will run a patch through after every shot, but this is all up to you. But I do field clean my piece when I get done, and then give it a thorough cleaning when I get home. Don't let one go more than a day or so without cleaning, especially in humid weather. Rusting will begin. My rule of thumb is just take care of it and clean the same day it was fired. This goes for my brass, too. Good Shootin'. Regards, Ken
