Having looked at Mr. Condon's offering, it seems to me that's a strange rod profile even for a MkIV Martini. Too much pinching between the groove and the head. As to the other details, I'm the one who has not paid enough attention in class, but I'll make a feeble start-the serial number and the block date do not agree, and the block should not have that color. The other thing I find odd is that I have a rifle close to one attributed to the US 1st Vol Engineers which, as I recall, was listed in SRS as an M1888, like mine. I know, close is no cigar, but the other interesting part of that is that my block number is among the earlier set for that model i.e. not in the 500,000 range.
