Well, I'm still pretty disgusted with myself for not being able to get back in time to the gun show table which had what I thought was an 1868 dated breech block. When I got there Sunday morning, the dealer or collector had already left for parts unknown. That rifle had no serial number at all on its left side. Strangely, the metal didn't appear worn anywhere and was sharp at the corners and edges. Bright metal with dirt and dried oil or grease. Sharp stock too. Was it possibly a prototype or something?
