Bill, Here is another possibility: The gun was repaired at Fort Abraham Lincoln and was sent back into service immediately from there. Once in the field more rough service was seen and it again had to be repaired and this time was sent to Springfield Armory where it was gone through and returned.Are there any records of this service or are we left to speculate. I'd like to get my hands on the records or have someone point me in the right direction so I could do some research. Mike Collins
